I'm a bit curious how other people engage with photography and art on #Mastodon. Do you typically click the 1:1 button on the media overlay and admire pictures in full resolution, when using the web app?

@Gargron Greetings! Thank you for creating and releasing Mastodon for everyone to build communities, make connections, and support a decentralized Internet. I’m really curious about the long-term vision for Mastodon. As the network grows, what are some of the things the development team is most excited about building or improving, while still staying true to the principles of decentralization and user control?

People always seem weirded out when I tell them I'm not on any corporate social media.

But it's been so long for me, I barely remember how it was there.

I just remember that I feel so much better since I deleted all these corporate accounts and decided to invest all my social media time in Mastodon instead.

I feel like I live in some blissful parallel universe that almost no one else knows about. Anyhow, I live here now :neocat_box:

You can embed Mastodon posts in your website or blog by doing the following:

1. Log in through your server's website
2. Go to the post or reply you want to embed and click on it to show it in an enlarged view
3. Click ⋯ on the post and select "Get Embed Code"
4. Copy-paste the HTML code into your website or blog

Lots of common questions answered about this at:

#Mastodon is taking off! But Internet history provides numerous examples of other promising platforms for the digital public sphere that have died untimely deaths (remember Second Life?).

@rwg and @aram, who have reviewed the history and looked at the challenges, and still bullish on the #Fediverse.

Do you think Mastodon will have staying power? theconversation.com/the-fedive

The ConversationThe fediverse promises social media without Big Tech – if it can avoid familiar pitfallsThe fediverse promises an egalitarian, noncommercial alternative to Big Tech for social media, but there’s a lot of work needed to make it work.

@FediTips, I’m having a lot of trouble with the mastodon iPhone app where all of a sudden while reading a toot the screen jerks and I’m pushed to 5 or 10 posts down. I have to scroll back up to continue reading what I was before being interrupted. Then it happens again. I’m suspecting this is possibly because some of the posts with links render a preview and causes all posts under it to realign vertically. Is this a known issue? Any recommendations? #askfedi #Mastodon

Some good news about #Mastodon, there has been a very significant bit of code added which will automatically fetch all the replies in a thread. This means everyone will be able to see a thread's whole conversation no matter which server they are on! 🥳

The code has just been "merged" which means it should become available in the next update to Mastodon, hopefully within the next few months.

Hey new people, you don't have to use the official Mastodon app! There are lots of other options you can use such as third party apps etc. Most people who try these alternatives usually prefer them.

Mastodon doesn't impose any particular app on you. You're free to use your account in whatever way works best for you. Here is a guide to all your options:

If you want to compare apps, you can be logged in with the same account on many apps at once.

Hi, I’m Ellie.

I’ve jumped to Mastodon after realising (again) how toxic big tech is. Trump and Musk’s obsession with controlling social media sealed it—I miss when it was about connecting, not just a tool for the rich to twist public opinion.

I’ll post a little bit about politics (Carol Cadwalladr fan!) but also pretty pictures, my pet, and travel snaps. Looking forward to actual conversations—not just whatever the algorithm wants me to see.
